“Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?–unless indeed you fail to meet the test!” (2 Corinthians 13:5)
Are you a Christian or a church goer? Are you a prayer warrior or a pew warmer? Have you repented and placed your trust in Jesus Christ or merely prayed the sinner’s prayer?
Are you truly born again?
Here’s a test from The First Letter of John (1 John) you can use to determine if you are a child of God (emphasis added):
- This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: (1 John 1:5-6)
- And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that says, I know him, and keeps not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. (1 John 2:3-4)
- If a man say, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar: for he that loves not his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? (1 John 4:20)
- Who is a liar but he that denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denies the Father and the Son. Whosoever denies the Son, the same has not the Father (1 John 2:22-23)
The words and teaching of Scripture are unequivocal. If you claim to be a Christian and your daily walk directly contradicts the teaching of Jesus (1 John 1:6), if you break His commandments (1 John 2:4), if you hate your brother (1 John 4:20), if you deny that Jesus is the Christ (1 John 2:22) you are a liar and a false convert. You are the fruitless fig tree about whom the owner of the vineyard is about to say “cut it down. Why should it use up the ground?” (Luke 13:6-7). Scripture declares that “all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. (Revelation 21:8). If you were to stand before God right now, you will be condemned as a law breaker and face the sentence of a law breaker and you will be the object of the righteous and just wrath of a Holy God. Have you forgotten that it is appointed for man “once to die, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27)?
God has made a way of escape however; for while He is Righteous, Holy and Just, He is also Loving and Forgiving. His love is so great that “while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). Jesus, who was perfectly sinless, became sin for us and on the cross paid our sin-debt that we may be made righteous in the sight of God (2 Cor 5:21). On the third day Jesus was raised from the dead and is now seated at the right hand of the Father where He presents ‘His obedience, His suffering, and His prayers’ on our behalf (Romans 8:34).
Although this is a free gift , it is not automatic: church membership, church attendance, and good works will not save you on the day of judgment. Nor will reciting the “sinners prayer”, else why have you not yet been born again? You must repent (Luke 13:3) and place your faith in Jesus (Gal 2:16). Please don’t delay any longer, repent and place your faith in Jesus now, “now is the acceptable time…now is the day of salvation”.
Light shows up everything, just as the Scriptures say, “Wake up from your sleep and rise from death. Then Christ will shine on you.” (Ephesians 5:14)
