So They May Hear

This is a really interesting video. I’m not sure what the people that produced it had in mind when they made it, but it asks a really important question. Actually it asks two really important questions: Did You Know? and What Does It All Mean?

Did You Know?

The video gives some pretty astounding figures about some of the things that occurred in the world during the 5 minutes it took to view it: 67 babies were born in the US, 274 babies were born in China, 395 babies were born in India, and 694,000 songs were downloaded illegally from the internet (that’s called theft)…

But the video didn’t mention another astounding fact that also occurred during those same 5 minutes: 535 people died. That is about 107 people every minute, 6,390 people every hour, or more than 150,000 every day. That’s a sobering thought isn’t it?

Did you know that the rapid increase in information and knowledge portrayed in the video was also predicted in the Bible more than 500 years before Christ? It’s true. Read the 12th chapter of Daniel. Jesus also spoke about such a time. A time when there would be an increase in wars, diseases, earthquakes, violence, and famines. A time of lawlessness, when youth will rebel and hate their parents, when homosexuality will be common, and people will be arrogant, ungrateful, unloving, without self-control, brutal, and haters of good. A time when people will proceed from bad to worse.

It’s all in the Bible. (Matthew 24, Luke 21, 2 Tim 3)

What Does It All Mean?

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist or a theologian to figure it out -everything that the Bible says will happen, happens. It’s true — all of it, every letter, every word. It means that Christians shouldn’t be full of worry (that is for the other side), but rather full of hope because of the promise we have in front of us. It means that the fields are ripe for the harvest and each one of us has the responsibility to labor in that harvest, to be obedient to the Great Commission.

It means that the call and the need to preach the Gospel is more urgent now than ever before. It means that even in the best of times, 150,000 people will die every day and most of them will face an eternity in hell. The lost and the dying are your friends and your relatives, they are your neighbors, and people you work with every day. They are the waiters and waitresses at your favorite restaurant, and the telemarketers who interrupt your evening meal. They are taxi drivers, school teachers, and unfortunately sometimes even the people who sit on the church pew next to you each Sunday. They are the mothers and fathers of the children your children play with at the park, your doctors, and your teachers. They stand on every street corner, walk in the same malls you walk in, and stand next to you in the check out line.

It means that the signs of the end of the age are all around us and there is a whole world that needs to call out for rescue! But how are they to call to Him in whom they have not believed? How are they to believe in Him of whom they have never heard? How are they to hear without someone preaching? (Romans 10:14)

It means that it is time for us to become that voice so they may hear.
